This is a Lionel 671 Vintage O 6-8-6 Die-Cast Steam Turbine Locomotive from 1946-49. This classic features die-cast metal construction, a worm drive motor, an operating smoke unit, an operating headlight, a 3 position forward-neutral-reverse E-unit, metal side rods and metal wheels. The 671 was a mainstay of Lionels line in the late 1940s. This engine has the grid heater type smoke unit.

A powerful and innovative model, the 6-8-6 was a Steam locomotive introduced during the 20th century. The 6-8-6 was powerful at high speeds, and was initially seen as a possible challenger to the Diesel locomotives that were beginning to dominate rail-yards in North America. While the design was loved by many, the 6-8-6 would ultimately present too many problems in both maintenance and performance before actually being scrapped for good by 1960. No known 6-8-6 models exist today as the focus greatly shifted to diesel models by the 1960s. This won’t stop you from running this legendary model, and with this breathtaking replica, you’ll feel like you’re in the cab of your very own real-life 6-8-6!
