Here is a Lionel 6-11133 O Gauge New York Central 2-8-0 Consolidation #1149 – TMCC. Through the first decade of the Twentieth Century, the 2-8-0 Consolidation was the standard wheel arrangement for most mainline freight steam locomotives. Soon after, the Consolidation was relegated to switching and branch line use where they enjoyed a long career, with some lasting well into the final days of steam in the 1950s.
The die-cast Lionel Consolidation is based on a 2-8-0 type developed by the Associated Railroads in 1902. Accurately detailed and featuring many separately applied details, these scale-sized Standard O engines are made to accompany Lionel Standard O Rolling Stock, but they are also well-suited for Traditional Rolling Stock.
FEATURES: TrainMaster Command Control upgradeable, RailSounds sounds system with CrewTalk communication and TowerCom announcements, Die-cast metal locomotive body, frame, and trucks, Die-cast metal tender body and trucks with metal frame, Separately applied metal details, Operating headlight, Puffing smoke unit, Tender marker lights, Operating coupler on rear of tender, Firebox glow, Engineer and fireman figures, Traction tires. It measures 20 inches in length and has a minimum curve radius of O-31.
Introduced as a relative ‘Late-comer” to the industry the 2-8-0 would quickly rise to popularity as a freight hauler the late 19th and early 20th century with its use spanning from the US to Europe. Hailed for its versatility during its run, the 2-8-0 would serve as a heavy freight hauler for various rail-ways before eventually seeing its use wind down starting in 1915. With a handful now in museums, there is still one model still operating in Pennsylvania today!
