This is a Lionel 2026 Vintage O 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive w/6466W Tender from 1951-53. Its features include a die-cast boiler shell, an open-frame motor, an operating puffing smoke unit, a remote control forward-neutral-reverse e-unit, an operating headlight, a decorative bell, metal side rods, and metal wheels. The 2026 was Lionel’s most popular O27 locomotive in the postwar era. Features for the tender include an operating whistle, die-cast trucks, and an operating knuckle coupler.
Brought onto the scene in the late 19th century and continuing use into the early 20th century, the 2-6-2 was a durable little model with some even surviving through the first World War seeing continued use in smaller capacities. These models were used for a variety of purposes from hauling coal loads to pulling smaller passenger cars. The North American model soon became known as the “Prairie” model and would quickly become a favorite in rail-yards around the world!
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. The smoke unit ahs been removed form the locomotive. The locomotive and tender have been re-painted and re-lettered by the previous owner. The locomotive and tender show scratches and spots of paint loss throughout various sections of the shell and chassis. These cars show rust throughout various sections of the chassis and trucks.
